Happy good day, Reader ๐
I am exhausted.
The past few weeks, and months really, I've been working very hard on a couple of big business projects and life transitions, and now I've passed those peak points. It's not necessarily downhill, but it's plateau time. And that stillness is so. hard.
One of the most challenging things in a physical yoga practice is finding stillness. And staying there. When our bodies are still, our minds tend to race and our mental awareness seems to grow three times its normal size, emphasizing and catching on everything little thing that's been vying for our attention underneath the surface of all the doing we do.
That's easily overwhelming and avoidance seems like a super shiny option โ so we want to get moving again. On to the next project, next action, next numbing scroll, next whatever is going to distract our awareness from the discomfort.
And oh, how very much we actually need to sit with the discomfort. That liminal space that really isn't so liminal. It's a destination in and of itself. It's not an in between.
If we aren't practicing spending time in the stillness and whatever that brings up for us, our tolerance window grows smaller and smaller and smaller until it's barely the size of a fissure in a concrete wall.
What really benefits us to make that discomfort manageable. So maybe it's small doses. Maybe you sit still for 60 seconds. And do that for a few days. Then add another minute to it and grow the window intentionally and incrementally. That makes it less uncomfortable.
And beyond the mat when we're dealing with the discomforts of stillness in life, we can do the same thing: one small incremental thing at a time.
What you find within yourself in those moments โ your resilience, your patience, your ability to love and resource yourself, your ability to grow โ are just the vitamins you need.
With good energy,
